"Halo 3" was released this week - did you get a copy? What are your early thoughts on this final installment of the blockbuster trilogy?
Yes, I succumbed to the Halo 3 media juggernaut. I knew I would be picking it up after I participated in the multiplayer beta testing. That's the
online version of me to the left there, although you can't see the awesome Hello-Kittyesque insignia on my right arm. Early Thoughts: If you're in it for the story line that has been running through Halo 1 & 2, you may be a tad disappointed. I'm a little over half way through the campaign, and I can't think of a single part of the story line that made me think "Oh, that makes sense.", or "That answers that question." The story so far seems very "You, go kill/destroy/disable/maim/insult that creature/vehicle/obstacle/asshat." or "There's a bunch of guys trapped over there. Go make like John McClane/MacGyver and help them." It's by no means a bad game and it does a great job immersing you in the Halo world, but it just feels like I've done it all before.
Multiplayer on the other hand is a blast. With the balanced matchmaking you know you will be playing against people close to your skill set, and the new weapons are a ton of fun (Gravity Hammer = Teh new Hotness!!1!). Add to that the ability to watch a complete replay of your matches from any camera angle, and take screenshots, and save movies, it's just a great and well thought out game.
If you enjoyed the multiplayer of the last two games I highly recommend Halo 3 and the singleplayer isn't bad, but so far it is a bit lacking.
